Collaborative Family Law Practice

Facing divorce? Move forward while preserving and transitioning your family relationships with help from Shannon V. Alexander PC, Attorney at Law. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Alexander achieved her Master of Science degree in Professional Counseling and worked with children and families in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Now specializing in collaborative family law and divorce mediation Ms. Alexander offers a remarkable alternative to litigated divorce that allows both parties to preserve their relationship with their children and each other in order to achieve a sustainable new family structure.
Just because the marriage is broken doesn't mean the family needs to be. Collaborative family law is generally less costly and time consuming than standard divorces. The parents become the architects of their new family structure rather than victims of an impersonal court process. Creative problem solving is encouraged, and even the children have a voice in the process.

Collaborative Family Law

In collaborative family law each party is represented by a collaboratively trained attorney to acheive a comprehensive agreement on all issues in a non adversarial, interdisciplinary process.  In addition to the attorneys, the parties work with a neutral finanacial specialist, a neutral child specialist, as well as personal coaches to bring the best of these professions to work for the family unit.  Although the concept of hiring so many professionals may seem daunting, the benefits are huge and in many cases, this process results in a less costly divorce because all resources of time, energy and funds are brought to focus on solutions rather than on litigation.  Don't squander your children's future on fighting with each other!  Coaches help the parties work through the emotional turmoil and roadblocks to agreement while the neutral specialists look beyond either side to sustainable solutions for divorced co-parents and their children.

Mediation Services
In addition to collaborative services, Ms. Alexander is also trained as a domestic relations mediator to assist parties either prior to or in litigation. Issues of divorce, custody, financial settlements and more can all be addressed in mediation.  When parties are instrumental in crafting their own settlements they are more satisfied with the results.  Don't put these critical decisions about your family in the hands of a judge or jury when you can work with a mediator to create your own solutions! Shannon V. Alexander is particularly qualified as a mediator for family issues due to her dual professional background as a family therapist and an attorney. If possible, we recommend taking advantage of this service before filing in order to avoid unnecessary contested litigation.

Guardian ad Litem
Shannon Alexander is also trained and serves as a guardian ad litem for all contested custody disputes.  She may be appointed by the court or hired privately by the parties whenever questions about the best interests of children arise.

About Us

Before choosing law as her career, Shannon Alexander earned a Masters in Counseling and worked with children, adolescents, and families. This background gives her a deeper understanding of the challenges facing children in contested custody cases.
